Choosing the right winter sleeping bag in terms of comfort and warmth is the most important thing you can do. Even more important then a winter tent. A tent will keep the rain and snow off you. It will also provide a minimal amount of warmth. But bringing a good winter sleeping bag rated for the cold will keep you safe, warm and comfortable. A winter sleeping bag should have the following characteristics:

  • Rated for 0 degrees or below
  • Have a well shaped mummy hood and draft collar
  • Waterproof shell for rain and condensation protection
  • Insulated with down 650 fill rating or above for dry conditions
  • Insulated with synthetic materials for wet conditions
  • Longer than your body to allow room to place other things inside you need to keep warm
  • Wide enough to accommodate extra clothing

Think quality and function over price when buying your winter sleeping bag. Choose your winter sleeping bag wisely because your well being could be at stake.
