Muir Woods Earth Day Celebration
Muir Woods National Monument is home to an ancient stand of coast redwood forest. Donated to the Federal Government this area was proclaimed a National Monument on February 9, 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. At the original owner's request it was named after John Muir the famous conservationist who some consider the father of our National Parks system.
