Just like I discussed in the article, "Winterize Your Vehicle For Winter Travel", emergency kits are a must have item for your safety.

Sure you can make up a emergency kit yourself. Do all the research on the items you need. Go to a bunch of different stores to purchase the items and then putting them all together hoping you got it right. But to make it easy on you I suggest buying a ready made kit from a supplier you can trust. Then personalize them for your individual needs.

Well today I have two such kits for you. I have done my research, checked them out and they are great products. In fact they are even better than what I personally have already so I plan on purchasing both of them.

Here is some info on these emergency kits.

There are two types of emergency kits everyone should have in your vehicle. The first one is a Roadside Assistance Kit. If you break down or get into an accident on the road these kits are essential to get you out of a bind. The best one I have found is the AAA 77 Piece Warrior Roadside Assistance Kit.

I has everything you need to

  • Fix a flat tire, including a mini air compressor
  • Start you vehicle if your battery goes dead
  • Take care of minor injuries
  • Keep you comfortable and warm for a short period of time until help arrives
  • It even comes with a driving survival book so it takes out all the guess work on how to use the tools.

This Roadside Assistance kit was put together by AAA, the largest and most respected Automobile Association in America, so you can trust they got it right. Remember this is an essential resource you can't do without. If you are interested in this item I have included an Amazon link directly to the item. So you can find out more about it.

Although the Roadside Assistance Kit is a great item, It is geared toward just taking care of your vehicle and very minor injuries. It is still a must have item but, it was never intended for a long term survival situation.

Plus it was put together for just one person. It doesn't include food or water or even a decent blanket. So you really need something more.

The second type of emergency kit you need to be safe during winter travel is a survival kit. Let me tell you about a story that was all over the news a few years back. You might have heard about it but it illustrates why a survival kit is absolutely necessary.

There was a family of 4, including a young toddler, that went up in the local mountains for a short sight seeing and hiking trip. It was in December if I remember correctly. I live in southern California so it hadn't even snowed up there yet.

They went up there and started hiking around and it started to snow. So dad the smart guy that he was decided it was time to call it quits and go home and led the family back to the car. Well when they got back to their vehicle surprise, surprise the tire was flat. I guess in a moment of weakness dad forgot to check the spare tire because it was also flat. And there was NOBODY ELSE AROUND! to help them.

The light snow soon turned into a fierce blizzard and the family was truly stranded. After 48 hours or so thankfully they were finally rescued with only minor frostbite but otherwise safe and sound.

Do you know what saved them? Well, Dad had purchased a Family Survival Kit and placed it into the trunk of the car. He also made sure to keep a thick wool blanket under the passenger seat.

They probably never thought in a million years something like that would have happened to them. But if Dad hadn't at least partially prepare his family it would have been a lot worse and even might have resulted in .....

Ok. You get the picture. The survival kit I have found for you is the "Deluxe 2 Person Survival Kit for Emergency Disaster Preparednessfrom a company called Survival Kits Online. It has just about everything 2 people need to survive for 72 hours in a scenario like the story I just told you. Including:

  • Food and Water
  • Water purification tablets
  • 30-Hour Emergency Candle
  • Compass, Tube Tent and a Emergency Sleeping Bag if you need to leave your car
  • It even has a deck of cards and a radio to keep you occupied until help arrives

In fact there are just too many items to list here If you have a family of 4 you could get two of them or the the company has a 4 person one available. They can also double as your home emergency kit. But you really should keep them in your car.

I'm not kidding. You really need these two items to keep your family safe just in case disaster strikes. Go check them out they are both on Amazonso you are getting one of the best deals around.
